The Word - Monthly Author Reading

We just got Word... and we are very excited!! Declan Burke and Eileen P. Keane will be joining us for The Word this month, Wednesday May 30th 6.30pm. Two fantastic readers as well as writers. 

Sligo born Declan Burke is a writer, journalist and critic. Well known for his crime novels, he has published 6 to date; The Lost and the Blind, Crime Always Pays, Slaughter’s Hound, Absolute Zero Cool, The Big O and Eightball Boogie and edited Trouble is Our Business (2016) , Books to Die For (with John Connolly, 2012) and Down These Green Streets (2011). He also writes and broadcasts on books and film for media outlets that include The Irish Times, Irish Examiner and RTÉ.

He is currently a Dublin City Writer in Residence for the Dublin UNESCO City of Literature programme ran by Dublin City Public Libraries.

Eileen P Keane is from North Connemara, Co. Galway. She is a graduate of the MA in Writing programme at NUIG. She writes poetry, memoir, non-fiction and is an accomplished singer and songwriter. Her songs have featured on RTÉ Radio and Television. She has written and performed for theatre and stage. Her poems have been published in the Galway Review and her Flash Fiction shortlisted for the Allingham Festival. 


Both writers will be sharing excerpts of their work and chatting with the audience afterwards with an inspiring and informative Q&A session.  

We then move on to our Open Mic – and as the title suggests, this can be any kind of word, prose, poetry, non-fiction or music.  There are a LIMITED number of spaces for this and they will fill up fast on the night. 

The Word is a collaboration between Sligo Central Library and the staff and students of the new BA (Hons) in Writing and Literature IT Sligo.
