Garrett Carr, author of The Rule of the Land: Walking Ireland’s Border.
Garrett Carr is a writer and map-maker. He lives in Belfast and it a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Queen’s University. His book The Rule of the Land: Walking Ireland’s Border is a portrait of Ireland’s border, its people and culture. It is published by Faber & Faber.
Dr Marion Dowd, author of The Archaeology of Caves of Ireland.
Dr Marion Dowd is an archaeologist and lecturer at IT Sligo. Her research focusses primarily on how people have engaged with caves in Ireland over the past 12,500 years. Her first book, The Archaeology of Caves in Ireland, won the Current Archaeology Book of the Year 2016, and the Tratman Award 2015. Her work explores the interplay between folklore, landscape and archaeology. She is also interested in the changing biographies of monuments and artefacts.
The writers will read from their work followed by a Q& A and an open-mic session. Local writers are welcome to read at the open-mic which operates on a first come, first served basis. The Word is a collaboration between Sligo Central Library and the BA in Writing & Literature at IT Sligo. There is no charge for this event.
