Library Service announce plans for re-opening arrangements.

Sligo Central library will be offering public PC access from Tuesday 1st September. Please note the following;

  • Patrons wishing to use Library public PC’s must still enter the library building through the new entrance located beside Stephen street and queue in order to be directed by staff to the computer room. When patrons are finished their session they will exit the building through the traditional entrance located at the rear of the building.
  • Three Public PC’s will be available for use from Tuesdays to Saturdays:  The opening times are 9.30am to 1.30pm and 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
    1. From 1.30pm to 2.30pm the PCs and workstations will be cleaned thoroughly.
    2. We would ask each member of the public to adhere to strict hygiene standards, clean hands thoroughly & wipe down their work area after use using the cleaning materials provided in the room.
    3. Masks must be worn for the full duration of your stay in the computer room.
  • Three patrons/visitors max are allowed into the computer room at any one time. You will not be allowed to bring someone with you when using your designated PC.
  • Clear signage regarding (i) rules & regulations, (ii) printing facilities, (iii) opening times and (iv) contact tracing are displayed in the room itself.
  • There are three public PC’s available in the local studies room – they are controlled by the PC reservation system.
    1. Users have maximum 55mins duration once a day – no extensions or further visits on the same day are allowed.
    2. If you leave before 55 mins you cannot come back to use remainder of your balance.
    3. Patrons can book a time/date with staff by giving their patron ID and PIN number to confirm booking/reservation.
  • Patrons must have their library card and PIN number to hand to access available PC
  • Visitors/Guests are also allowed a guest pass of 55 mins duration. This will be provided by staff located at the main staff desk. Visitors/Guests will have to give the relevant staff member their name, address and mobile phone number for contact tracing purposes. This information will be deleted once the relevant time period has passed.
  • Printing facilities are available via the Surf Box Kiosk. Printing instructions & pricing are clearly marked at each of the PC Workstations. Library staff will not be in a position to assist patrons with printing/photocopying services. Visitors/Guests are also allowed a guest pass of 55 mins duration. This will be provided by staff located at the main staff desk. Visitors/Guests will have to give the relevant staff member their name, address and mobile phone number for contact tracing purposes. This information will be deleted once the relevant time period has passed.

Enniscrone Branch Library Current Service:

The counter service will be based upon a first come first served basis with social distancing queuing system.

In accordance with HSE guidelines, returned items will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours – therefore the Library service will not be in a position to recommence loans until at least the week beginning 22nd June 2020.


Sligo Libraries are due to begin offering more services to the public from Monday 8th June as outlined in Phase 2 of the Government’s Roadmap for Reopening Society and Business. However, it will be some time before full library services can resume.  Preparatory work to re-establish the service has been ongoing since May 18th, with adjustments to the types and range of services being examined in the light of Covid 19 restrictions.

Gradual re-opening

In all situations, the health and safety of library users and staff will be paramount. Social distancing will be observed where library users interact with services, and all health and safety protocols will be observed.
