The Dictionary of Irish Biography

The dictionary of Irish Biography, a collaborative project between Cambridge University Press and the Royal Irish Academy.

The dictionary is the most comprehensive and authoritative biographical dictionary yet published in Ireland. it contains over 9,000 signed biographical which describe and assess the careers of subjects in all fields of endeavour including politics, law, religion, literature, journalism, architecture, painting, music, the stage, science, medicine, engineering, entertainment and sport.

This gives access to the online catalogue allowing members to search and view or reserve items.

We use information technology and tools to increase productivity and facilitate new forms of scholarship. It includes archives of over one thousand leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as select monographs and other materials valuable for academic work. The entire corpus is full-text searchable, offers search term highlighting, includes high-quality images, and is interlinked by millions of citations and references.

The Irish Times Digital archive contains exact reproductions of all articles published by the Irish Times from 1859 onwards up to present day.

Because of the workload involved in reproducing daily editions in digitized formats and uploading them to the site, you may find that the previous week’s daily editions (from the current date) are inaccessible. As such this database is primarily to be used for research purposes. This Database can only be accessed from Public Computers on the library network.
