Sligo Central Library will be hosting The Word on Wednesday 25th of March at 6:30pm.
Roisín O’Donnell is a bestselling Irish author. Her debut novel Nesting won the award for Novel of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards 2025 and was nominated for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. Her short story collection Wild Quiet was published in 2016 and was shortlisted for the Kate O’Brien Award and longlisted for the Edge Hill Prize. Her short stories have been published in The Stinging Fly, The Irish Times and many other places, and have been broadcast on RTÉ Radio. Nesting has featured on BBC Radio Four, and in the Observer Best New Novelists 2025. Roisín grew up in Sheffield, with family roots in Derry city, and she now lives in Meath.
Eileen Magnier is best known as the former North West Correspondent for RTE, a position she held for over 30 years, covering all the major and not-so-major stories in the region. Originally from Kilkenny she is now enjoying relatively deadline-free life focussed on projects that interest her in media
Ruth Clinton is an artist, writer and musician from north County Dublin, living in Sligo. She performs with traditional singing group Landless (winners of Best Group RTE Folk Awards 2025), as well as experimental folk trio Poor Creature. A founding member of The Night Before Larry Got Stretched singing session, she also plays at a weekly Old Time session in Sligo town. In 2025, she published This Fearless Maid II, a collection of songs challenging patriarchal narratives.

Open Mic: The Open Mic is limited to 5 participants, with a three-minute timeframe per performance. Names taken on the evening.
The event is free and unticketed with limited seating. The doors will close at 6:30pm.
