Talk: Sligo Field Club Journal, The Aidan Mannion Collection

Join us at Sligo Central Library for two special events presented by Sligo Field Club, exploring the history, heritage and natural environment of Sligo and the wider region.

The Sligo Field Club Journal

Editor Dr Fiona Gallagher will discuss the Sligo Field Club Journal, which is now in its tenth year of publication. The 2026 volume will be published in December and will feature a wide variety of articles and research.

Topics include seabirds and wildlife in Donegal, the mystery tree at Hazelwood, Keash hill fort, the 1667 Deed of Partition, the disenfranchisement of Sligo Borough in 1870, and much more.

A Collection of Sligo History

In the second part of the event, Ross Mannion will speak about his father’s remarkable collection of historic objects connected with Sligo. He will discuss the collection and plans for how these objects will be curated and displayed in the years ahead, with the support of the Local Authority.

Traditional Irish Crafts Presentation & Demonstration – Heritage Week

Celebrate Heritage Week with us at Tubbercurry Community Library, Ballymote Community Library, and Sligo Central Library as we welcome Mary Cooper of Markree Woolcraft for a fascinating presentation and demonstration of traditional Irish crafts.

Drawing on her extensive knowledge and experience, Mary will share the rich heritage of Irish wool crafts while demonstrating traditional techniques. Specialising in Irish wool products for spinners, felters, and knitters, she is passionate about preserving and promoting these time-honoured skills.

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or simply curious about Ireland’s rich textile traditions, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the artistry and heritage behind Irish woolcraft.

Crafting in the Kitchen: Craft Exhibition

As part of national Heritage Week 2026, Sligo Central Library will host a special exhibition showcasing the creativity and skills of our regular crafting group, ‘Crafting in the Kitchen’.

Come along and enjoy a colourful display of their wonderful handmade work, celebrating traditional crafts, creativity and the joy of making.
