Leas Cathaoirleach launches Our Lived Memories book at Sligo Central Library

Leas Cathaoirleach, Councillor Fergal Nealon joined by Minister Marian Harkin, Minister of State at the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science launched Our Lived Memories at Sligo Central Library; a collection of five women’s journeys in stories, poems and photographs.

This publication brings together the lived experiences of Mary Rowan Foley, Nora McGillen, Joan Reid Moffitt, Rose Jordan, and Barbara Monks Charleton. Through stories, poems, and photographs they have gifted glimpses into their lives — their families, their traditions, their hardships, and their triumphs.

Speaking at the launch, Leas Cathaoirleach, Councillor Fergal Nealon said, “This project is a shining example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared vision.  The collaboration between Sligo Libraries and MSLETB has shown how powerful partnerships can be in creating learning opportunities that are inclusive, accessible, and deeply meaningful.”

Minister Marian Harkin said “Special thanks must go to Dolores McLoughlin, Adult Literacy Co-ordinator, and Joan Moffitt, Family Learning Co-ordinator and Adult Literacy Tutor, whose dedication and vision helped guide this project from its earliest stages. Their work exemplifies the strength of partnership between adult literacy—particularly family learning—and our library services”.

Copies of Our Lived Memories are available from your local Sligo Library branch.

This project is supported by the Collaboration and Innovation fund as part of the Adult Literacy for Life Strategy, co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union.
