‘See and Learn’ Language and Reading packs now available

‘See and Learn’ Language and Reading packs available to borrow from Sligo Libraries.

Cathaoirleach Councillor Declan Bree launched ‘See and Learn’ kits, a new service now available from Sligo County Libraries. ‘See and Learn’ are visual learning packs designed to support the additional learning needs of children with Down Syndrome and children with similar learning needs. This learning programme was designed using extensive research and evidence-based experience to assist in the development of early speech, language, reading, numeracy, and memory skills.

Patricia Keane, Acting County Librarian thanked the Cathaoirleach and Elected Members of Sligo County Council, along with Martin Lydon Chief Executive and Management Team for the increased book fund in 2025 which allowed Sligo Library develop this collection.

Ríona Rochford, Coordinator and Nikki Curran, Chairperson Down Syndrome Association Sligo were also in attendance. Nikki said they were absolutely thrilled that Sligo Library has taken this step “by making these packs available to borrow, the library is not only breaking down barriers but also championing inclusivity, ensuring that everyone has access to the tools they need to learn and thrive.”

‘See and Learn’ kits contain teaching activities structured to follow typical developmental pathways but are divided into small steps to steadily build skills from pre-school and through early school years. Early years being key in building foundations for learning, the kits are suitable for use at home and can be borrowed with a Sligo Library card.
