Hello and welcome to Sligo Library Summer Stars Reading Challenge 2023

Summer is here!  And that means that libraries around the country are once again celebrating reading with our Summer Stars Reading Challenge for children.

Running from now until mid-August, Summer Stars is an opportunity for children to enjoy reading during their summer holiday with FREE events, rewards, and incentives along the way.

Each child who participates will also be invited to attend an awards ceremony where they will be presented with their own Summer Stars medal and certificate.

The Reading Challenge is for all children, with no restrictions on how many books must be read.

Summer Stars Bookmark Competition

Design a bookmark! It could be a drawing of your favourite character from a book, your favourite scene from a book, or you could even re-draw the cover of your favourite book! Anything that you have read that makes your artistic imagination run wild!

When you’re done bring your competition sheet in to your local library. Winners from each library will receive a prize, and one lucky overall winner will have their design made into an actual bookmark that will be available in Sligo County libraries!

Contest runs from July 20th – August 9th

Summer Stars Reading Review Competition

If you love your book, you can now write about it.

Each week during the Summer, we will share a book review from our Facebook and Instagram page.

You will then be entered into an overall draw for a prize, which will be announced during our award ceremony on Monday 14th of August.

Anybody can join. Just complete the online form and provide identification which shows your current address when visiting the Library. Under 18s will need a guarantor.

Our main catalogue is a great place to start as it contains the majority of the Library’s collection of books, journals, newspapers, maps and more.
