The Word at Sligo Central Library in November, with special guest Maggie Armstrong

Sligo Central Library will be hosting The Word on Wednesday 26th of November at 6:30pm.

Maggie Armstrong has written fiction and essays for the Dublin Review, Stinging Fly, Banshee and more. Her debut collection of stories Old Romantics was published by Tramp Press and Biblioasis and nominated for Newcomer of the Year at the Irish Book Awards and the Kate O’Brien award. Her work features in the PVA film writing anthology In the Good Seats and An Alternative Irish Christmas by Tramp Press.

Elske Rahill is a Dublin-born novelist and short story writer. She is the author of the novels Between Dog and Wolf and An Unravelling and the short story collection In White Ink. Her debut was listed by the Irish Times as one of ‘The Best Books by Women of the 20th Century’. Her work has appeared in many literary journals and anthologies including The Stinging Fly, Agni, The Dublin Review, The Tangerine, Winter Papers, and The Faber Anthology of New Irish Short Stories. She teaches on the Writing and Literature programme at Atlantic Technology University in Sligo, where she lives with her partner and four children.

Claudia Schwab is a Sligo based Austrian violinist/singer/yodeller and composer who has performed on numerous recordings and collaborated with a range of cross-genre artists in Ireland and across Europe. She has published three CD’s of original work (2014, 2017, 2024) and has been awarded a range of prizes such as the “New German Jazz Prize“, “Hubert Von Goisern Advancement Prize” and a “Next Generation Bursary Award“. Her musical journeys brought her all over Europe over to Egypt, USA, India, West Africa, Moldova, Indonesia and Canada, as part of orchestras and bands as well as touring her solo project.

Q&A: Open audience Questions and Answers session

Open Mic: The Open Mic is limited to 5 participants, with a three-minute timeframe per performance. Names taken on the evening.

The event is free and unticketed with limited seating. The doors will close at 6:30pm.

The Word is a collaborative event between Sligo Central Library and the BA in Writing & Literature course at Sligo ATU.
