Visual Arts Commission 2023:
The theme of the commission is to create an art piece that is reflective of the communities of County Sligo. Applicants are invited from professional artists who are from County Sligo or who studied art at ATU Sligo, to engage with the topography, heritage, and culture of Sligo City or County.
Artists are requested to consider the social fabric and makeup of Sligo County Council’s multifaceted communities within its administrative area.
The commissioned art piece is an opportunity for a professional artists or artists to depict the rich tapestry of Sligo’s many communities and individuals who choose to call Sligo, home. The quality of the commissioned piece will also reflect Sligo’s rich artistic and cultural legacy and Sligo’s reputation for excellence in the creative world.
The successful artists will be asked to create a significant artwork which may take pride of place in the Mayor’s Parlour in Sligo City Hall which for many centuries has been a focal point for community engagement and civic pride.
