Sligo Central Library will be hosting The Word on Wednesday 29th of March in Sligo Central Library, Stephen Street from 6:30pm.

Pauline McLynn will be joining us to chat about her life and career in writing.

This is a FREE, and unticketed event. Seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Pauline McLynn has written 8 novels for adults. The first three feature Irish Private Eye Leo Street – Something for the WeekendBetter Than a Rest and Right on Time. Then came 5 stand-alone novels: The Woman on the BusSummer in the City, Bright Lights and PromisesMissing You Already and The Time is Now.

She has also published two children’s novels with Puffin UK – Jenny Q Unravelled and Jenny Unstitched.

She has contributed short stories to many charity collections including Moments (in aid of Tsunami victims) Magic (in aid of One Parent Families) and Girl’s Night In (for Warchild). She also wrote a chapter of Yeats is Dead, the serial novel by 15 Irish writers, including Roddy Doyle, Marian Keyes, Joe O’Connor and Frank McCourt.

She has written a Tiny Play for Ireland for Fishamble Theatre Company called The Caring and one for the National Theatre of Great Britain’s Connections series called Angels.

 As an actor she is probably best known for being Mrs Doyle in FATHER TED but also Eastenders, Shameless, Bremner Bird and Fortune, Inside No.9, Dr Who and more recently Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything for Sky.

On film she can be seen in the Irish movie Deadly Cuts and Edgar Wright’s Last Night In Soho.

Keith Hopper Dr Keith Hopper teaches Writing & Literature at Atlantic Technological University, Sligo. He is the author of Flann O’Brien: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Post-modernist (revised edition, 2009), and has edited nineteen books on Irish literature and film. Aileen Concannon and Eoin Troy have sung and played together for many years, starting out in local cafes, and moving on to performances in the Hawkswell Theatre and Vicar Street. They enjoy performing an eclectic mix of music, including classic pop, rock and folk.

Audience Q&A 

Open Mic is a first come, first served bases, and is limited to five names. Names are taken on the evening; participants are asked to keep within a three minute time-frame.

The event is free and unticketed with limited seating. The doors will close at 6:30pm.

The Word is a collaborative event between Sligo Central Library and the BA in Writing & Literature course at Sligo ATU.
